Insomnia

“When you have insomnia,
you’re never really asleep.
And you’re never really awake.”
– Edward Norton, Fight Club

The butterflies of dreams, with the moths of sleep, and the air of insomnia, in a swirl of confusion. Might be caused by pregnancy (it takes credit for pretty much anything nowadays) or just stress, or both. In a more concrete way, it’s brought on by heat, hunger, back aches and such, moving baby, a radio song stuck in my head, Frank making some noise, or uncontrolled/unordered musings or recollections that wind their way into my semi-conscious state. But mostly I think it’s nothing at all. Maybe just a natural crash course on freaky sleep patterns, preparing my head for upcoming nights of nursing.

4:50AM. I think I’ll try catching that last hour now, before the gray of dawn takes its golden tones.

Math

Time for my monthly post! (I’m not really big on posting, you’ll have noticed, but at least kept up the baby album somewhat.)

The baby’s room is decently furnished now – just needs a thing or two more to be at least functionnal -, his laundry’s washed, we’ve started sorting things out for the little hospital-ready suitcase. Weekdays are workdays, and the weekends will be spent something like this:

  • June 10: Sister coming; the girls of the family are going to see a baladi school show/diner on Saturday night.
  • June 17: Diner saturday at Frank’s uncle’s place.
  • June 24: Québec national day aka. 3-day-weekend with fireworks!
  • July 1st: Canada national day aka. 2nd 3-day-weekend in a row! Also known as “moving day” in Québec. What with the pregnancy, I have a good excuse this year for not helping anybody out (w00t). As for Frank, he’ll probably give a hand to his brother, who’s moving to a nearby town.
  • July 8: Nothing as of yet for this week.
  • July 15: Nothing as of yet for this week, though this should officially be my first day off work for a good long while… Might be a good time for a little celebratory… juice.
  • July 22: Well… that’s baby’s due date.

I also *really* want to find some day to visit my friend in Québec sometime this month. That first 3 day weekend might provide an opportunity for that.

So June will probably fly by fast. And if we take out work days, and days where there’s at least one activity planned, we’re left with… yup, 9 free days before the baby gets here. Maybe 5 more for me if I do start my pregnancy leave a week before the planned date. Although we should take off 3 or 4 days where all I’ll be doing is looking for someone with a pool. (Hum, and I thought that whole 6 weeks left thing was scary.)

And we still haven’t got a name.
