R2D2 and Jar Jar Bing, stars of the preschoolers

Conversation about Star Wars:

E – “Xavier, what we’ve seen is the *first* Star Wars movie: The Phantom Menace. Next, we will see the *second* Star Wars movie: Attack of the Clones.”
X – “But I want to see the one with R2D2.”
E – “R2D2 is in every Star Wars movie.”
X, smiling – “Will we see the one with the big head, too?”
E – “Jar Jar Bing? Hehe. Yes, he’s in the next movie too.”
X – “Yes, the guy with the pants. The guy with the black pants, he… (unintelligible retelling about Jar Jar Bing’s performance).”
O – “And he falls, he falls on the ground!”
E – “Jar Jar Bing?”
O – “Yes, he falls on the ground!”

It seems Jar Jar Bing has an audience, after all, in preschoolers. As a matter of fact, the leader of the toad people’s jowl shaking was the only moment when Orly laughed throughout the movie.

Easter city

Morning at the Easter City (in the mall!). There were animals…

…little houses (they were Villa Julia… cute!)…

…ferrets that climbed on the kids’ crafts, chicks to touch with a finger, bunnies with soft fur…

…drawings to hang on clothes lines…

…and ice cream to spoil little tummies!

You just can’t plan a shot like this

…although he was looking like this, most of the time:

Girl’s room

I wrote a month ago about the mural in Orly’s room but we, the parents, hadn’t quite moved out of that room yet, because ours wasn’t ready.

Everything is done now — erm, except some paint touch ups in our room, which, hum… will-get-done-eventually — so here is a look at our girl’s completed room:

We didn’t repaint the walls, which are three shades of blue. I still like the colour/pattern we used for them when it was our room and, since there are a lot of pink accents and dolls in the room, it still feels very girlie!

I don’t adore the way all the furniture is pushed up against the wall, but there are two logical reasons for this:
1. This is Orly’s first big bed, so having 2 sides of wall around it (and a bed guard) is safer.
2. It creates a super large play space in the middle of the room!

This wall is pretty empty now. We’ll add a frame or something eventually:

Lastly, the closet wall on the left… Since her everyday clothes all fit in the dresser, we stashed most of her toys in the closet. Three benefits to this:
1. There are built-in open shelves in there, so the toys are easy to access once the folding doors are open.
2. Space for the big toys, like doll strollers and ride-ons.
3. We close the doors and it all disappears. w00t!

Does Orly love her new room? Yes, she does!

Maple, yum yum

(To follow our Asian dinner in a nice place in the big city from Saturday night…) Sunday, we had lunch at the CABANE À SUCRE (sort of a maple fest/feast) with work!

Yum! This is an annual favourite of Xavier the sweet tooth, who took this opportunity to score a couple of sips of delicious pure syrup.

Orléane frowned on most food, but her appetite came back for maple taffy, however!

Coat = sticky!

Extraestial

Overheard in the car:

Frank – “Which shape is your vitamin?”
Xavier – “An extraestial. Like Orléane!”
Frank – “What! Who’s an extraterrestrial?”
Xavier – “It’s Orléane, the extraestial! Me too.”
Orly – “We’re the same.”
